Main Street Coordinator Lacy Burson has announced a Wonderland of Lights Volunteer Work Day this Friday, July 15, 2022.
Volunteers and City employees will again strip old, non-working lights off of Christmas displays. A work day held in May also focused on stripping old lights off of displays, many of which haven’t been used in years.
“We have found a lot of stuff. There is a set of three train engines that are not out, but we want to get those out ,” Burson said during a previous work day.
Burson also found a lighted dolphin, flamingos and palm trees that were used years ago in a “Santa on Vacation” display area, as well as finding Cinderella’s carriage and Cinderella. Some of the displays need a little attention and welding work but are otherwise in good shape and will likely be used during this year’s Wonderland of Lights festival.
Volunteers will gather from 10 am-Noon on Friday at the old SWEPCO building at the corner of Franklin and Fannin Streets.
