Main Street Coordinator Lacy Burson has announced a Wonderland of Lights Volunteer Work Day scheduled for Friday, August 19, 2022.
Volunteers and City employees will meet at the Marshall Convention Center and attach new lights to old lighting displays that have been stripped of old non-working lights. Two work days held earlier this summer focused on stripping old lights off of displays, many of which haven’t been used recently but will come back this year.
“We have found a lot of stuff. There is a set of three train engines that are not out, but we want to get those out,” Burson said during a previous work day.
Burson also found a lighted dolphin, flamingos and palm trees that were used years ago in a “Santa on Vacation” display area, as well as finding Cinderella’s carriage and Cinderella. While some of the displays were in good shape, some needed a little attention, and have been welded and painted.
“We have moved our displays to the Civic Center where there is air conditioning, so we can relight the displays I have found that we want to rework. Mr. George Carter and Thomas (Carlile) have welded and painted some of the displays so they are prepped and ready to go for new lights,” said Burson.
Volunteers will gather from 8:30 am-noon on Friday, August 19, 2022, at the Marshall Convention Center. Burson said you do not have to stay the whole time to volunteer.
“As much time as you want to donate to me, I will take,” she said.
